SPRINT MILANO ART BOOK FAIR 2026 OPEN-CALL

DEADLINE → AUGUST 1st

The 14th edition of SMABF will take place Friday 27, Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November 2026, hosted for the first time at Dropcity, a new center for architecture and design, located in the tunnels beneath Milan Central Station.

If you have publishing projects and would like to apply, please read this introduction carefully — you'll find the form below, which you can fill out in English or in Italian using the EN/IT switch in the top right.

SMABF is a non-profit artist-led salon that since 2013 welcomes individual realities, informal collectives, small or more structured publishing houses, promoting a broad view on different languages (drawing, graphics, typography, photography, writing) and formats (zines, magazines, books). The ABF is accompanied by a public program of talks, performances, screenings and exhibitions that anticipates, accompanies and continues throughout the fair days.

SMABF is dedicated to offering a platform to authors and publishers, and is not open to bookstores or distributors except for specific cases by direct invitation.

☯ Selected small/medium publishers participate for free upon agreement to donate 2 titles selected by our team during the fair days (see conditions below).

☯ Public access is free.

☯ Selected entities will be notified by email by September 15.

Please note:

☯ Submit your application only if you can commit to attending the full duration of the ABF, i.e. the following schedule:

Friday 27 November
→ Public access 6 PM – 9 PM  |  Table setup access from 5 PM

Saturday 28 November
→ Public access 11 AM – 8 PM

Sunday 29 November
→ Public access 11 AM – 8 PM  |  Table breakdown access until 9 PM

☯ SMABF primarily focuses on paper-based materials. We ask to limit apparel exhibits to one type of t-shirt, tote bag or other garment (color and size variations accepted). LPs and tapes must be embedded in a wider production that also includes paper editions.

☯ If your application is accepted, we kindly ask you to donate a selection of titles to SPRINT. These publications are selected by our team on the first day of the fair and will be used to enrich our archive, gifted to our volunteers, or contribute to a possible future fundraising moment (at our discretion). We ask to be able to freely choose 2 titles per publisher (in case of zines, max 3 titles), with a total amount not exceeding €100. We appreciate your understanding and respect in not donating heavily worn copies.

☯ Selected publishers are asked to not participate in 'similar' events to SPRINT (e.g. markets of any kind) in the MONTH of NOVEMBER in Milan and Lombardy, and on Friday 27, Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 NOVEMBER in Italy. Ubiquity can be a great resource, but we prefer realities that are willing to focus and be present with us in that magical 'here and now'.

☯ We remind you that realities with only one active publication are less likely to be selected.

☯ Selected publishers will subsequently be invited to participate in our annual SURPRIZE – Supporting Publishing Practices prize, dedicated to publications that will be realized in 2027.

For those who don't know us yet: we believe in promoting an authentic community, built on support, accessibility and a horizontal approach. As a non-profit intersectional organization created by artists who work to keep SMABF free for publishers and the public, we dedicate ourselves to providing a platform for collaboration and mutual respect. Although our commitment to inclusivity and accessibility may seem abundant, we encourage reflection on the efforts and resources invested to maintain this ethos. Let's continue to appreciate and support the spirit of community that makes this lucid dream possible. SPRINT is an artist project produced by the non-profit associations GALATTICA + O'

We do not accept any discriminatory behaviour: no racism, no fascism, no sexism,
no lesbo/trans/homophobia, no support for genocides

Submit 3–10 JPGs (300 dpi) via a publicly accessible folder with a non-expiring link. Name files: PUBLISHER NAME_1, PUBLISHER NAME_2, etc. You must hold full rights to all images — only the publishing house name or tag will be credited, not individual photographers
